We've don't some great badges over the last few months. We have observed the moon and planets though a telescope, tried freeze dried ice cream and fruit like astronauts which has earned us our Space badge. We have been looking at global issues such as how much energy we use, biodiversity, endangered animals and climate change. The beavers have also had their first camp this year. We have been very proud of them, as for many of them it was their first night away from home. We became nature detectives, finding tracks and examples of different animals homes. We practiced knots, made a catapult and flew our own homemade kites. As we move towards Easter, we are going to be getting green fingers and look at plants and gardening.

Scouts have been working on their science badge by making exploding bags using vinegar and bicarbonate of soda.  We talked about finger prints and made invisible ink.

We have also been looking at properties of wood for burning and deciding what worked better to get fires started and then what wood was best to keep them hot to enable us to cook on them.  Scouts also learnt how to make feather sticks to get fires started easier.

We visited a charity that helps the homeless and listened to a service user on how they have helped them find a new home.  They learnt about why people become homeless and what food and items the need to survive on the streets.  We are having a food collection to help the charity.

We have also been on a few night hikes and continue to work on our navigation and mapping skills.
